Mermaid Harbour (Animated, PTU)

(Click tag to see full-size image)

Mermaid Harbour

This tutorial was written by me on May 3rd, 2012 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an absolutely gorgeous kit by Susan of Tootypup Scraps called "Mermaids Frolic".  The entire tag was made using only elements from the kit.  Please visit Susan's blog HERE for store information.  Thanks so much Susan!

Mask of choice: I used mask #1 by Melissaz Creationz.

Font of choice: I used Quijote Sauvage Text, a pay font.

Plug-in used: Eye Candy Nature; Ripples

Animation Shop.

Drop shadow used throughout: H&V 2, Opacity 45, Blur 8.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 825 x 750, white background.

From the kit, open FramePlain_02 and resize 55%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move to the left side of the canvas.

Using the magic wand, click inside the frame.  Expand the selection by 8.

Open a paper of choice and resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move below the frame.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Invert selection once again.

Duplicate the paper layer twice for a total of 3.  Rename each layer Ripple 1, Ripple 2 and Ripple 3.  Hide Ripple 2 & 3 and activate Ripple 1.

Apply Eye Candy Ripple using these settings:

Under the Settings tab:  choose Waves, Small and Blurry.

Under the Basic tab, change the settings to this:

Click OK.

Hide Ripple 1, open and activate Ripple 2.

Apply Eye Candy Ripples using the settings above, but click the Random Seed button once. Repeat for Ripple 3.

Open MermaidsFrolic_11 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move to the right side of the frame.  See my tag for placement.

Add your elements, I used:

BeachRocks: resize 70%
WaterSplash_01: resize 55%, then 70%; free rotate 25 degrees right
SeaGrass_02: resize 20%, then 70%; duplicate and resize 80%
Shell_04: resize 12%
Deco_01: resize 50%
Fish_01: resize 10%, then 80%; duplicate and resize 70%
Fish_02: resize 12%; duplicate and resize 50%
Fish_03: resize 20%, then 85%
JellyFish_01: resize 10%; duplicate and mirror, resize 85%
Bubbles_01: resize 15%; duplicate and resize 60%
MermaidsFrolic_05: resize 50%

Apply drop shadow to all elements.

Activate the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection, deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information (if using another tube).

It's time to animate!  Open Animation Shop.

Make sure Ripple 2 and 3 are both hidden and Ripple 1 is open.

Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

In Animation Shop, right click on the workspace and select "Paste As A New Animation".

Back in PSP, hide Ripple 1 and open Ripple 2.

Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

In AS > Edit > Paste > After Current Frame

Repeat for Ripple 3.

Edit > Select All

Animation > Frame Properties > change to 35.

View > Animation to see your tag in action!

Save as a gif and you're finished, enjoy your new tag!

I'd love to see your result, email me HERE.

Hugs, Carol
