Spring Is In The Air

This tutorial was written by me on April 25th, 2010.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous FTU kit called "Bluebonnet Memories" by Teresa at Scraps By Randy's Sin.  This kit has beautiful papers and lots of wonderful elements, I had a lot of fun playing with it!  You can download it from Teresa's blog HERE.  Make sure you leave some love when you grab it!

Two Tubes of choice (one should be a close-up): I'm using the beautiful pinup art of Jamie Kidd with a valid license.  You can purchase Jamie's tubes from CILM.

Template: MCTemplate_63 by Melissaz Creationz.  You can download from her blog HERE.  Thanks for sharing all these incredible templates Melissa!

Mask: SLCloversDaydream by Sabre of Sabre's Quill and Parchment.  Download this beautiful mask at his blog HERE.

Font of choice: I'm using A&S Black Swan.

Drop shadow of choice, I used H&V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 10

Plug-in used: Eye Candy Impact, Gradient Glow.  (Optional, used on name only).

Let's make a new tag!

Place your mask in your PSP Masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete Raster 9, 3, 2 and Copy of Raster 3 and 2.  Change the canvas size to 650 x 650 so you have more room to work.

Add a new raster layer and send to the bottom, flood fill this layer with white.

Click on Raster 8 in your layers palette.  Selections > Select All > Selections > Float > Selections > Defloat.  Choose a paper from the kit and resize if desired (I resized 70%).  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Selections > Invert > Delete.  Delete the original.

Continue in this manner for the remaining layers.  For Raster 6 and Copy of Raster 6, after you paste the paper, add a new raster layer while still selected and flood fill with a color that compliments your tube (I used #f689ea).  Change the Blend Mode of this layer to Color.

For Raster 1, leave the selection active after you've pasted the paper.  Copy and paste your close-up tube as a new layer above the paper.  Resize as needed and delete the excess.  Add a drop shadow.  Change the blend mode of your close-up tube to Soft Light.  You might want to choose Hard Light or Overlay instead, both also look quite nice and it will depend on your tube as to which one works best.

Copy and paste your main tube as a new layer.  Resize if needed.

Open rs_cloverleaves and resize 25%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move to the bottom right side of your tag and move below your main tube layer.  Duplicate the clover and mirror the image.  Arrange on the lower left side.  Drop shadow.

Now add some more flowers, there's lots to choose from!  I added some clover flowers, dogwoods, one of the grasses, and lily of the valley.  Resize each as needed and arrange in front and behind your main tube.  Drop shadow as you go.

Have fun adding as many additional elements as you like.  I added a few butterflies, some bees, and a hummingbird.  Drop shadow each layer.

Open rs-wa1 or a word art of your choice.  Resize 60%, then 90%.  Center the word art at the bottom of your tag, add drop shadow.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of all the elements, then hide your background layer and merge visible.

Unhide your background layer and add a new raster layer above it.  Selections > Select All.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Selections > Select None.

Apply SLCloversDaydream mask using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask and invert transparency unchecked.  Right click your mask in the layer palette and choose Merge > Merge Group.

Hide your background layer.  Activate your crop tool and click the Merged Opaque button at the far right of the top tool menu.  Click the green check mark to get rid of any excess canvas.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  I used Eye Candy Impact Gradient Glow to add a glow effect to the name.  I used color #564a90 with the following settings:

Resize your tag as desired and save as a jpg or png.  You're done!

Thanks for trying my tutorial, I hope you'll show me your results!

Mask: WSL_Mask298, available HERE.

Font of choice, I'm using Mon Amour Script Pro.

Ok, let's get creating!  :-)

Place the mask in your PSP Masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image 750 x 650, white background.

From the kit, open SW_doodleframe1, resize 35%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.

Using the magic wand tool, click inside the frame.  Selections > Modify > Expand > expand 4.

Open your tube, resize as desired, copy and paste as a new layer.  Duplicate the tube and move the original below the frame.  Using your eraser tool, erase the parts of the top tube that overhang your frame and then remove the bits from the bottom tube that show beneath the frame.  Add a drop shadow to the frame, I used H&V 2, Opacity 35, Blur 12.65.  Add a drop shadow of choice to the bottom tube only.  Merge these four layers (paper, frame and two tubes) together.

Open SW_Doodleflowers and resize 15%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, Image > Mirror.  Image > Free Rotate > rotate right 30 degrees.  Move below frame and arrange as desired, see my tag for placement.  Duplicate this layer and Image > Flip.  Arrange at the bottom of the tag (see my tag).  Add a drop shadow, I used H 1, V 2, Opacity 35, Blur 8.

Open one of the ribbons, I used Ribbon3.  Resize as desired and place behind the doodle flower layers.  Duplicate as many times as you like, mirror some of the duplicates and use the raster deform tool to move them around to your satisfaction.  Sharpen as necessary.  Drop shadow each layer as you go.

Open SW_GlitterSpray, resize 10%.  Image > Mirror.  Place behind the frame, sharpen and add drop shadow.

Open SW_Flower7, resize as desired and Image > Mirror.  Place on the left side of the frame, drop shadow.

Open the SW_babiesbreath and resize.  Move below the flowers and erase the bottom part of the stem.  Drop shadow.

Open one of the bows (I used Bow2), resize as desired and place at the bottom of the flower stem (see my tag).  Drop shadow.

Now decorate your tag by adding some flowers and butterflies.  Resize as desired and scatter among the stems and leaves.  Add drop shadows as you go.

Once you're happy with the placement of all your elements, hide your background layer and merge visible.  Crop some of the excess canvas and resize all layers 85%.

Unhide background layer and add a new raster layer.  Selections > Select All.  Open a paper of choice from the kit, copy and paste into selection.  Selections > Select None.

Apply WSL_Mask298 using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert transparency unchecked.  Right click on the mask in your layer palette and click Merge > Merge Group.

Resize your tag as desired, add your name and all applicable copyright and license info.  Save your tag as a jpg or png and you're finished!  I hope you enjoy your new tag and thanks for trying my tutorial!
