You're My Penguin (PTU)

(Click on the tag to see the full-size version)

You're My Penguin

This tutorial was written by me on January 23rd, 2010.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Tools Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a lovely PTU kit called "You're My Penguin" by Sticky Kisses Designs and available to purchase HERE.

Template: Template #1 from Scrapity Scrap and More.  Download this and more of her amazing templates from her blog HERE.

Mask: WSL_Mask214 by Chelle.  You can download this and other awesome masks from her blog HERE.  Thanks for sharing your time and talent with us hun!

Tube of choice: I'm using the whimsical art of Suzanne Woolcott, aka Gorjuss with a valid license.  I purchased this tube when she was still with AMI, but you can find her new tubes at her store HERE.

Font of choice: I'm using A Yummy Apology

Plug-in needed: Eye Candy Impact, Gradient Glow (optional)

Drop shadow used throughout: H&V 2, Opacity 62, Blur 5

Ready?  Let's make a new tag!

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete Raster 8.

Image > Canvas Size > change size to 750 x 650, we'll resize later.  Highlight the bottom layer and flood fill the blank space with white.

Highlight the heart layer (Raster 7).  Selections > Select All > Selections > Float > Selections > Defloat.  Open a paper of choice from the scrap kit, copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize as desired (I resized 70%) then Selections > Invert and hit Delete.

Do the same for Raster 6, 5, 4 and 2.

For all the "frame" layers (Raster 3, Copy of Vector 2, etc.) choose a colour that compliments your tube and the scrap kit, I used #b4586f.  Highlight the layer you wish to work on, float, then defloat your selection, add a new raster layer and flood fill with your colour.  Delete the original layer.  Repeat these steps for all the frames and apply drop shadows.

Highlight your top layer, open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize if desired and drop shadow.  Move over to the left side of your tag.

Now open and add elements of choice, I used Bow 4, Brad 1, Doodle 3, Paper Heart, Penguin 1 and 2.  Resize each element as desired and place where you like (see my tag for reference).  There's lots of really cute elements with this kit, so there's plenty of possibilities!

Once you have everything placed to your satisfaction, hide your background layer and merge visible.

Unhide your background layer.  Selections, Select All.  Add a new raster layer and open a paper of choice from the kit.  Copy and paste into selection.

Apply WSL_Mask214 using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert transparency unchecked.  In your layers palette, right click on the mask and choose Merge > Merge Group.

Right click on your merged layer, Merge > Merge Down.  Resize this layer as desired, I resized mine 85%.

Now add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  I also added a gradient glow effect to the name using the same colour as my frames.

Now save as a jpg or png and you're finished!

Thank you for trying my tutorial, I hope you enjoyed it!

Tube of choice: I'm using the incredible art of Cristina McAllister with a valid license.  I love this artist!  You can purchase her tubes from CILM.

Mask of choice.  I used a gorgeous mask by Sabre at The Quill and Parchment.  All his work is spectacular!  The mask I used is called "The Brave Heart of Pansies" and is available to download from his blog.  Thanks for sharing your talent with us Sabre!

Plug-in needed: Xenofex 2, Constellation (optional, this is used only if you wish to animate)

Animation Shop

Drop shadow used throughout, unless stated otherwise: H&V 2, Opacity 50, Blur 5

Ready?  Let's get started!

Open a new image, 750 x 650, white background.  We'll resize later.

From the scrap kit, open pdc_heart5.  Copy and paste as a new layer.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, resize if needed.

From the kit, open pdc_cloud and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Apply a light drop shadow, I used H&V 0, Opacity 12, Blur 8.  Move to the right side of the tag.  Image > Duplicate > Mirror.  Arrange in front of your tube.  Duplicate the left cloud again and move below your tube, place it further to the left and up a bit, see my tag for reference.

Highlight the background layer, then open pdc_glitter1 and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move over to the right, filling your heart (see my tag.)  Duplicate then Image > Mirror.  Merge these two layers together and duplicate the merged layer.  Image > Flip.  Move this layer up until you like what you see.  When you're satisfied, merge this layer down so all your glitter is on one layer.

Now have some fun decorating your tag!  I used pdc_flower4 through 9, resized some, mirrored some, and then arranged them both in front and behind my tube.  I also used the bird and both lovebugs.  This kit has a lot of beautiful elements, so mix it up and experiment!

Highlight your background layer and add a new raster layer.  Selections > Select All.  Open a paper of choice from the kit, copy and paste into the selection.  Selections > Select None.

Now apply the mask using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert transparency unchecked.  In your layer palette, right click your mask layer and choose Merge > Merge Group.  Use your raster deform tool to adjust the size of your mask if you like.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  You may now save as a jpg or png.  If you'd like to animate, then let's continue!

Highlight your glitter layer and duplicate twice for a total of 3 layers.  Hide the two copies and highlight the original.

Apply Xenofex 2, Constellation using these settings:

Now right click on your tag and choose Copy Merged from the menu.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and choose Paste As A New Animation.

Back in PSP, hide the original glitter layer and unhide the first copy.

Apply the Constellation effect using the same settings, but click the Random Seed button.

Right click your tag and choose Copy Merged.

In AS, right click on your tag and choose Paste > Paste After Current Frame.

Repeat these steps for the last glitter layer.

In AS, click View > Animation to see your tag in action!

If you're happy with what you see, simply save as a gif and you're all done!

Thank you for trying my tutorial, I hope you enjoyed it!

Unhide your background layer and highlight it.  Add a new raster layer, Selections > Select All.  Open a paper of choice from the kit (I used Paper 7), copy and paste into selection.  Selections > Select None.

Apply a mask of your choice, then use your raster deform tool to resize and position as desired.

Now add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Hide your background layer and activate your crop tool.  Select the Merged Opaque button on the top right menu bar and click the green check mark to crop your tag.  Resize as desired to your preferred size.  Save as a jpg or png and you're finished!  I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Now it's time to add the bubbles to your champagne!  LOL!

This tutorial was written by me on January 10th, 2010.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in any other version.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Tools Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a beautiful FTU kit called "Stina" by Tracey at Soxational Scraps, available from her blog HERE.  Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful kit and hard work with us hun!

Tube of choice: I'm using the gorgeous art of Meredith Dillman with a valid license.  You can purchase Meredith's tubes from CILM.

Mask: HERE  I've had this mask for a long time and don't remember where I got it originally.  If it's yours or you know who created it, please let me know so I can give proper credit or remove it.  Thanks!

Plug-in used: Eye Candy Textures; Texture Noise.  (Optional)

Font of choice, I'm using FancyPants

Ready?  Let's make a new tag!

Download the mask and place in your PSP Masks folder.

Open a new canvas, 650 x 650, white background, we'll resize later.

Open two papers from your scrap kit, I used Paper 2 and Paper 5.  Minimize.

In your materials palette, change the FG to Pattern, open the pattern menu and choose one of the papers you just opened.  I used Paper 5.

Do the same for your BG, I used Paper 2.

Activate your Preset Shape tool and choose Ellipse from the drop down menu.  Anti-alias and create as vector checked, line style solid, width set to 8.  Draw out a large circle and then go to Objects > Align > Center in canvas.  In your layers palette, right click on your circle layer and choose Convert to raster layer.

Apply a drop shadow, I used H&V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 7.

From your scrap kit, open Charm 2.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move over to the left side of your circle (see my tag for placement).  Move this layer below your circle and Image > Duplicate.  Mirror the image and arrange on the right side of your circle.  When you're happy with what you see, merge these two layers together.  Duplicate the merged layer and Image > Flip.  Merge these two layers together and apply a drop shadow of choice.  I used H&V 2, Opacity 50, Blur 5.

Open Wrap 2, resize 75%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Use your raster deform tool to adjust the size so it looks like it's wrapped around your circle.  Apply a drop shadow.

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer.  Apply a drop shadow of choice.

Now have some fun decorating your tag!  I used Bag 3, Bow 1, Butterfly 2 and 3, all 3 candles, Rose 1 and 2.  Resize each as desired, copy and mirror some, use your raster deform tool to slightly rotate some of the roses and arrange all these elements behind your tube.  Place your butterflies as desired.  When you have your roses arranged the way you like, hide all other layers and merge visible.  Add a drop shadow to all your new layers.

Open Heart Weed and resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move below your roses.  Place on the left side of your tag, duplicate and mirror.  Arrange the duplicate layer on the right side.  Apply drop shadow to both layers.

Once you're happy with the placement of all layers, hide your background layer and merge visible.

Click on your background layer and add a new raster layer.  Selections > Select All.

Open a paper of choice from your kit (I used Paper 1), copy and paste into selection.  Selections > Select None.

Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask from Disk.  Find sensations mask 20 and apply using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert transparency unchecked.  In your layers palette, right click your mask layer and choose Merge > Merge Group.  Use your raster deform tool to adjust the mask size to your liking.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Hide your background layer, activate your crop tool, select the Merged Opaque button on the right side of the top menu bar and then click the green check mark.  This crops away the excess canvas without cutting off any of your mask or drop shadows.  Resize your tag to the size you prefer.

Now you may save your tag as a jpg or png.  If you're using the same tube I did and would like to animate it, let's continue!

Activate your tube tool and choose the flare tube from the drop down menu (this tube comes standard with PSP).  Add a new raster layer and apply the tube (I placed it between her hands).  Now duplicate the flare 3 times for a total of 4 layers.  Hide the 3 copies and highlight the original.

Now apply Eye Candy Textures, Texture Noise using these settings:

Repeat this process with the three copies, using the same settings but changing the Random Seed each time.

Time to animate!

Hide all three flare copies again, leaving the original open.  Right click on your tag and choose Copy Merged.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and choose Paste As A New Animation.

Back in PSP, hide your original flare layer and unhide copy 1.  Right click and choose Copy Merged.

Back in AS, right click on your tag and choose Paste > After Current Frame.

Continue in this manner until you have 4 frames.  Now go to View > Animation to see your tag in action!  I changed the frame properties to 15, but this is up to you.
